Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul's poor run of form continues, as he played another disappointing knock against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday, April 19. Rahul got two lifelines in the powerplay due to poor fielding by the RR players but failed to capitalise and was dismissed for 39 at a strike rate of 121.88.

Batting first, LSG were reduced to 154/7 in 20 overs following a poor start from the openers with RR bowlers nailing perfect deliveries. Trent Boult was outstanding with the new ball, conceding only two runs in his first two overs and bowled a maiden over in the first over of the innings.

LSG openers managed just 37 runs in the powerplay as Boult, Sandeep Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin kept things quiet in the first 6 overs. Kyle Mayers hit a couple of boundaries to get to his half-century, but it came in 42 balls and he failed to convert it into a big score.

Kevin Pietersen slams Rahul's batting approach on-air

Rahul, meanwhile, was dropped twice in the powerplay, but after a slow knock, Holder had caught him at long-on with a slower delivery. The LSG captain departed in the 11th over after scoring 39 off 32 balls with one six and four fours. The openers got a couple of big overs, scoring 13 and 18 off the eighth and ninth over, respectively, but after that, the RR bowlers pulled it back.

Another disappointing knock by Rahul infuriated fans and even prompted former England batter Kevin Pietersen to criticise him while doing commentary.

"Watching KL Rahul bat in the powerplays is the most boring thing I have ever been through", said Pietersen on air.

A strange batting display from LSG players resulted in them settling for a below-par total. Mayer's 51 off 42, Marcus Stonis' 21 off 16 and Nicholas Nicholas's 29 off 20 took the visitors to 154. Boult took one wicket conceding just 16 in his four overs, while Sandeep Sharma and Jason Holder also claimed a wicket each. Veteran spinner R Ashwin was also brilliant with the ball, taking two wickets for 23 runs in four overs.

Chasing 155, Royals lost three wickets for 104 runs after 15 overs. The hosts need 51 runs in 30 balls to register their fifth win of the tournament.
