By declaring on Wednesday that he was "too tired" following the agonising feeling of losing his first significant European final to Sevilla, Jose Mourinho cast additional doubt on his ability to continue managing Roma. After the match in Budapest ended in a draw (1-1), the Spanish team won 4-1 on penalties following Paulo Dybala's first-half goal was offset by an own goal by Roma player Gianluca Mancini.

The 60-year-old Mourinho had previously triumphed in each of the five of his former major European finals, which included the maiden UEFA Conference League final alongside the Italian team last year. Mourinho's dissatisfaction was evident by the simple fact that he flung his second-place medal into the spectators sitting behind the dug-out.

In response to inquiries about his future, Mourinho told reporters that they were "not important at the moment" and that he was looking forward to taking a vacation at the conclusion of the season. With one game left, Roma, who are now in sixth place in Serie A, will need to win to secure a position in the Europa League for the upcoming season.

We lost a game but not dignity: Roma Manager Jose Mourinho

The Portuguese expressed his displeasure with the refereeing throughout the final as well as felt that several calls were made against his team. He said, "We felt pressure against a team that has more talent than us. We lost a game but not dignity. I've never gone home prouder than today, even when I won. We had also worked hard on penalties but we missed two -- but all together, not only the penalty takers.

The former Tottenham manager then went on to congratulate the Sevilla side for winning the Europa League and thanked his players for what they have done. He said, "Congratulations to Sevilla, but also congratulations to my players. The boys must go home peacefully, with pride for having done what they have done. These are my boys from Budapest."
