Rohit Sharma has been facing backlash for failing to fire of late. However, the second T20I between India and Australia, which was interrupted by rain, changed the fortunes of the skipper. The Mumbai captain in the Indian T20 League produced a stellar display to take India home.

After putting Australia on to bat first in a match restricted to eight overs per side, India returned to chase a total of 91. Rohit Sharma started firing from the start and remained unbeaten at 46 in the end. Sunil Gavaskar, the former India cricketer could not hold himself back from praising the Indian skipper for his stupendous innings.

The former Indian legend opined on the approach from the Indian skipper and gave insights on how it worked for him. Further, Sunil Gavaskar said that Rohit Sharma helped Men in Blue to win the match and lauded the skipper for the same.

"What you saw with Rohit today was a measured approach. It wasn't anything where he was looking to defend, but he was being a lot more selective. And look, when he is playing those flick shots or the swivel pull shots, he is very good at that. Where he gets into trouble is where he is looking to play on the off-side, just tonks it up like that, that's where he hits the ball up in the air rather than into the stands. That's the only thing that he is going to watch out for,” Sunil Gavaskar said post the conclusion of the match.

That is the reason why he batted so brilliantly: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar highlighted the aspects that worked for Rohit Sharma in the fiery innings. The 73-year-old said that the batter must carry on the same in future matches as well.

“Otherwise, when he is hitting it in his range, he has got absolutely no problems at all. That's what he should be looking to do. Today was such a measured innings. He was waiting, cutting the ball, pulling, he was not going bang straight away. That is the reason why he batted so brilliantly," Sunil Gavaskar concluded.
