The fifth Test between India and England is all set to begin on 1st July but just before the important game, Covid has struck the Indian Camp. Indian Captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for Covid-19. Rohit’s absence from the team could mean a big blow as he was the highest run-scorer from India in the series. Rohit has scored 368 runs in 8 innings so far in the series.

According to a BCCI statement, “Rohit has tested positive in the Rapid Antigen Test in Leicester, England. His test was conducted on Saturday, June 25. He’s been placed under isolation with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team supervising his health.”

Earlier R. Ashwin also tested positive before leaving India which delayed his arrival.

Team India is already without KL Rahul who’s recovering from an injury. Both Rohit and Rahul gave a solid start to India on numerous occasions in the series. Rahul was the third-highest run-scorer of the series with 315 runs to his name in 8 innings. Team India will badly miss the duo at the top of the order.

Team India is on the verge of winning a Test series in England after 15 years. If India manage to win this series it will be their 4th Test series victory on English soil. They are leading the series 2-1 and a win or a draw in the fifth Test match will settle the series win for India.

The Indian team will be wary of England, who look completely revamped under the leadership of their new captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon Mccullum. England are playing a 3-match Test series against New Zealand and have taken an unassailable lead of 2-0. Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Ben Stokes are in great form and have scored heavily in the series. While in the bowling department, James Anderson and Stuart Broad as always will pose a serious threat to the Indian team.
