India crumbled under pressure yet again in another semi-final as England were better than India on the day as the Men in Blue suffered a ten-wicket rout against the Three Lions at Adelaide on Thursday. India were found short with the bat and ball on the day of the semi-final.
India were reeling at 75-3 after 11.2 overs when Hardik’s late order heroics when he played a scintillating knock of 63 off 33 balls with four fours and five sixes. This allowed India to get to a below-par total of 168-6. Then in the second innings, India were blown away by a 170-run opening partnership between Alex Hales and Jos Butler which led to 10 wicket hammering to India.
We were not good enough with the ball- Rohit Sharma
The bowlers were not at all up to the mark in the second innings as they failed to penetrate the England openers and they could not pick up a single wicket. Which led to a humiliating exit for India in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. After the match, Rohit Sharma who had an underwhelming tournament blamed the bowlers for India’s semi-final defeat.
Here is what he had to say: “When it comes to knockout stages, it's all about handling the pressure. Depends on the individual as well. You can't teach anyone to handle pressure. When these guys play the playoffs in the IPL and all that, those are high-pressure games, and they're able to handle it,” Rohit said, when asked about the team crumbling under pressure.
"It's pretty disappointing how we turned up today. I thought we still batted pretty well at the back end to get to that score, but we were not good enough with the ball. It was definitely not a wicket where a team can come and chase it down in 16 overs. With the ball, we didn't turn up today. The way we started with the ball was not ideal. We were a little nervy, but you have to give credit to the openers as well,” he added.
