India came back to winning ways as they trumped Bangladesh by 188 runs in the first Test against Bangladesh on Sunday. This was their first Test win outside India in 2022. This helped India move to the second spot in the World Test Championship standings. The next Test will be played in Dhaka.
Rohit Sharma did not take part in the first Test and the side was led by KL Rahul. Rohit missed the third ODI and the first Test due to a thumb injury. The Indian captain, who took over the India captaincy after the 2021 World Cup, has not led the national side in all the series because of fitness issues or injury.
According to reports, Rohit Sharma is set to travel back to Bangladesh to lead the team in the second Test. Meanwhile, Ajay Jadeja was asked about who will sit out of the side for the second Test in case Rohit returns. The former Indian cricketer's reply left everyone stumped.
“Tabhi toh bol raha hu Rohit ko bolo ghar me baithne keliye (That is why I suggest Rohit should stay at home). When a player suffers a hand fracture and you cannot hold the bat for about 10 days, even if you recover, you cannot really join the team the very next day. It takes another 1- to 15 days. And we don't even know the extent of the injury yet. That is why I suggest this. We are looking for a temporary solution and this is the best solution for it,” He told Sony Sports.
India got their first Test win outside the country in 2022
If Rohit was to play in the second Test and he comes back, then Shubman Gill has to sit out and it won't be fair on him as he had just scored his maiden Test Ton in the first Test against Bangladesh. To avoid any selection conundrums, Jadeja felt the best solution for India was that to ask Rohit Sharma to stay back at the National Cricket Academy and continues his rehab.
India won the first Test after 40 minutes on Day 5 after scalping the last four wickets and this gave India a much-needed win and some vital World Test Championship points.
