After Team India's two-Test series in the West Indies in July, Ajinkya Rahane will join English county side Leicestershire in county cricket.

Rahane recently made a sensational comeback to the national Test squad, scoring 89 and 46 in two innings against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

He will play Royal London Cup in August: Indian Cricket Board

A source from Indian Cricket Board said, "Ajinkya, after the two Tests in West Indies (which is supposed to end on July 24), is supposed to fly directly to England and join Leicestershire for the remainder of the season. He will play Royal London Cup in August and a possible four County games in September as he is unlikely to be a part of the white-ball scheme of things."

Leicestershire inked a contract with him earlier this year, with the intention of playing eight first-class games in the Royal London Club (a domestic 50-over league) from June to September, following the IPL 2023. But the idea had to be scrapped when he returned to the Indian Test squad and was unable to join his county team once the IPL concluded.

Rahane will be participating in the County Championship for the second time, having previously played for Hampshire during the 2019 season after being left out of the ODI World Cup team.

He hit a crucial 89 runs in the first innings in the WTC final and went on to score 5000 runs for India in 83 Tests. All of the other Indian players will convert to the 50-over format in September, but Rahane will concentrate on red-ball cricket before returning home for the domestic season and aiming to play in South Africa in December.

Notably, Rahane has taken a more aggressive batting approach during his stint with the Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni; he has recovered the missing spark and has acquired a reputation as an all-format player.

On July 12, 2023, Team India will face the West Indies in the first test. Will Rahane be able to keep his ongoing form on the tour?
