It all came down to Trent Rockets and Manchester Originals in the final of The Hundred 2022. The captains of both teams walked into the arena amid a huge roar for one last time this season. The Lord's ground looked ecstatic as ever and the crowd stood up to laud the two teams that have done extremely well to reach the finals. It was the Originals captain Laurie Evans who won the toss and elected to bat first.
It backfired quickly as Philip Salt and Laurie Evans returned back to the pavilion. The team was badly in need of a player who can guide them out of the maze but Wayne Madsen disappointed alongside Tristian Stubbs. Trent Rockets' bowlers were brilliant, but it was indeed the Originals batters who played poorly.
Ashton Turner played a decent knock of 26 off 13 at a 200 strike rate comparatively and perished. The Originals' batters lacked the intent and failed as they aggregated a mere 120 for the loss of nine wickets.
Trent Rockets for the title
Alex Hales and Dawid Malan failed to fire up for the Rockets and this proved to be costly for the team up front. The middle order did not really stand up for the team and looked tragically weak.
This was a team that reached the finals on the back of strong openers, solid middle order and skilful bowlers. But the yellow brigade lost it all in the finals yet kept crawling towards the target. With fans puzzled and thrilled to know the winner of the season, the Rockets kept fighting back until their Lewis Gregory gave them the final push. His seventeen off six balls helped the team reach the target and clinch the title.
It was celebrations all around as the yellow brigade deserved the win after doing fantastic in the season. The team will now walk out with pride and the Originals can't be undermined either. They did not bow down and the bowlers backed the team so well. Here are some of the interesting tweets that we have handpicked:
