Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star batter Rinku Singh is expected to receive his first call-up to Team India for the five-match T20I series against the West Indies, which begins on August 3. The Indian selectors confirmed the Test and ODI squads last Friday, with Rohit Sharma set to captain both sides.

Following his strong performance in the IPL season, Rinku has been linked with a first-ever national call-up. He scored 474 runs in 14 games, averaging 59.25 and has a strike rate of 149.52. He will also be a part of the T20 team for the Ireland series.

The doors aren’t closed on any senior player: Indian Cricket Board

According to the report, Umesh Yadav was not dropped but was injured. The report stated, "Umesh is suffering from a hamstring injury and is recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore."

The Indian Cricket Board source also stated that Cheteshwar Pujara's options were not locked when he was dropped for the two-match Test series against the West Indies next month. The source stated "If Ajinkya Rahane can be made vice-captain of the Test side after being out for 15 months before the WTC Final, anyone can make a comeback. The doors aren’t closed on any senior player."

The 25-year-old batter scored 280 runs in overs of 16 to 20 this season Indian Premier League (IPL), striking at 186.67. During this stretch, he smacked 22 sixes. While no other batter has scored 200 or more runs, Shimron Hetmyer comes in second with 193 runs. His average and strike rate in run chases were 152.50 and 174.28, respectively, scoring 305 runs at the death.

Rinku, who plays for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, has 1,768 runs in 89 games with an average and strike rate of 30.48 and 140.87, respectively. His career includes ten half-centuries, with his highest score being 79. 725 of his T20 runs have come in 31 IPL matches, with an average of 36.25.

Hardik Pandya will lead the T20I side in the series against the West Indies, while the senior players will be rested. Since the 20-20 World Cup, Pandya has led Team India in the T20I format.
