Ricky Ponting predicts Pakistan’s performance in 20-20 World cup, says they can’t win if Babar Azam doesn’t score

Ricky Ponting, in Cricket’s governing body review show, told that Pakistan can win the T20 World Cup 2022 only if Babar Azam scores. He said that the latter has been fantastic for the past two years. Pakistan lost to Australia in the semi-final of last year’s T20 World Cup. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting made a wild prediction and said that Pakistan’s win depends on Babar Azam.

“If Babar doesn’t have a great tournament, I don’t think they can win,” Ponting said. Ponting also admitted that the batter had been extremely consistent in test format. I saw him up close and personal a couple of years ago out here in a Test series against Australia and I said it then, I thought the sky was the limit for this guy as far as Test match batting (was concerned) and, if anything, he’s probably got better and better in the last couple of years,” Ponting added.

Babar Azam is currently the top-ranked white-ball batter. He ranks first in T20Is with an 818 rating, and in ODIs with an 892 rating. He recently played a match-winning 119 and 55 in the first match against Sri Lanka. The batter has been unstoppable for the past few years. He has been leading when it comes to ODI and T20I cricket. The batter has also been doing exceptionally well in test cricket. He ranks fourth in test cricket with an 815 rating. A few more innings from him and he would reach the top.

Pakistan will play alongside India, Bangladesh and South Africa. The men in green tasted their first-ever victory against India in the world cup last year. They defeated India by 10 wickets to create history. India would be hoping to avenge Pakistan for the same. It remains to see if Pakistan can carry the momentum from last year’s world cup.

With aggressive batters and bowlers in the squad, they can make it to the final four of the tournament. The 20-20 World Cup will be held in Australia this year. India, Australia, England, New Zealand and Pakistan are the favourites to win the cup.
