A few days ago, Lucknow Super Giants recorded the second-highest score in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and today they failed to chase down the second-lowest score of this season. LSG spinners restricted Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a below-par score on a difficult pitch, but once again the RCB bowlers stepped up and produced an impressive performance to pull off an incredible low-scoring encounter by 18 runs in Lucknow on Monday.

Opting to bat first, RCB batters struggled to find runs and had to settle for 126-9 in 20 overs. After the first innings, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis said that the wickets were slow and that they were at least 10 runs behind. However, he added that if they can get one or two wickets in the powerplay, the chase will be difficult for LSG. The bowlers took their captain's directives to heart and delivered an outstanding performance, picking up five wickets in the first six overs.

Mohammad Siraj gave his team a dream start by dismissing Kyle Mayers on the very first ball. Ayush Badoni was promoted to the top order as LSG captain KL Rahul, who was injured while fielding during the first innings, did not open alongside the West Indian. Badoni, Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda followed the openers without troubling the scoreboard much.

There were no heroics from Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis either as both were removed by RCB spinner Karn Sharma. Krishnappa Gautam hit a few boundaries but it didn't make much of an impact on the board. Amit Mishra and Naveen-ul-Haq contributed a few runs in the end. However, RCB bowled out LSG for 108 runs in 19.5 overs to claim their fifth win of the tournament.

Earlier, Virat Kohli and du Plessis started their innings slowly and managed to post a decent Powerplay score of 42. LSG spinner Ravi Bishnoi drew the first blood by dismissing Kohli (31 off 30) in the last ball of the ninth over to break the 62-run partnership. The spinners continued to apply the brakes on the RCB innings, resulting in Krishnappa Gowtham dismissing Anuj Rawat in the 12th over.

There was no Glenn Maxwell show as well as the Australian power-hitter was sent back by Ravi Bishnoi for four runs. The visitors faced another collapse when their top order failed to find resistance, losing back-to-back wickets following Maxi’s departure.
