Real Madrid kicked off their campaign with a win against Eintracht Frankfurt (2-0) on 11 August 2022. They clinched the UEFA Super Cup for a record fifth time and the coach was all praises for the players. Carlo Ancelotti said after the match that he was impressed with Karim Benzema’s intent.

Eintracht Frankfurt had the match in their hands initially but lost it up when Madrid came back harder at them. The coach from Italy added that it was difficult to find form first up. He expressed that he was feeling good after the win. “Eintracht were very closed and we found it difficult to find our rhythm, but we did it well then. It’s difficult at the beginning of the season to be in top form but we now have won to start the season well,” Ancelotti said.

He added that he liked Benzema’s intent and said that he has been a good leader so far. “He’s a very important player, a team leader,” the Italian said. The Madrid’s coach added that Benzema deserved a large part of the credit for the team’s success. “If we’re here it’s largely due to his merits, he scored a lot of goals, he finished the season well, he scored a goal today and now he’s going for the Ballon d’Or award,” Ancelotti said further.

Karim Benzema earlier revealed that he has become more confident after Cristiano Ronaldo departed from the team. The coach said that the victory was not needed to prove his team’s worth. Ancelotti added further that it was more complicated than it looked.

"I didn't need this win to be able to tell you all that my team is still hungry and motivated. It was a match which was more complicated than it might have looked," the Italy-born coach said. This win gives Real Madrid a perfect start to their campaign. This win also makes Carlo Ancelotti, the first coach to lift the trophy four times.
