Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul sustained an injury on his right thigh during his team's IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, May 1. Rahul was finding it difficult to walk and lay on the ground for some time in pain. He was then taken off the ground with the help of the team physio.

The injury occurred on the final ball of the second over, when RCB skipper Faf du Plessis hammered a delivery off Marcus Stoinis through the extra cover region, and Rahul rushed to save a boundary. The LSG opening batter first held his right thigh and limped before collapsing onto the ground.

Rahul did not come out to bat during their chase against RCB, although the severity of the injury is not known. Rahul's injury is causing concern not only in the LSG camp, but also in Team India, as major events follow the IPL. If it's a muscle strain instead of a pull, his participation in the World Test Championship final could be in jeopardy.

India will already miss the services of Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer and will not want their wicketkeeper-batter and number five option out of the marquee event.

LSG spinners restricted RCB to 126-9

Talking about the first innings, Faf du Plessis returned to lead RCB and chose to bat first on a spin friendly pitch. Virat Kohli and du Plessis started their innings slowly and managed to post a decent powerplay score of 42. LSG spinner Ravi Bishnoi drew the first blood by dismissing Virat Kohli (31 off 30) on the last ball of the ninth over to break the 62-run partnership.

The spinners continued to apply the brakes on the RCB innings, resulting in Krishnappa Gowtham dismissing Anuj Rawat in the 12th over. There was no Glenn Maxwell show as well as the Australian power-hitter was sent back by Ravi Bishnoi for four runs. The visitors faced another collapse when their top-order failed to find resistance, losing back-to-back wickets following Maxi's departure. They finished with a below-par score of 126 runs as LSG spinners dominated the show.
