The star Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga's all-round performance helped B-Love Kandy side win their first Lanka Premier League (LPL) title as they beat Dambulla Aura by five wickets in the final. Although Hasaranga was not available due to injury in the final, he finished as the highest run-getter and wicket-taker of the tournament. It is pertinent to mention that the leg spinner plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the last edition of IPL, he picked up nine wickets and scored 33 runs in eight games he played.

The final of the LPL 2023 was between Dambulla Aura and B-Love Kandy at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Jaffna-based side had won the league in every season since 2020. Looking at the final of the 4th edition of the cash-rich league, Dambulla won the toss and opted to bat first. The opener, Avishka Fernando, was dismissed in the third over, and there were not any major big scores. Dhananjaya de Silva scored the highest with 40 (29). In bowling, Chaturanga de Silva picked up two wickets in four overs.

While in the chase, Kamindu Mendis played a good knock of 44 runs as an opener and was in the crease till the 13th over. Although the game went to the wire as six runs were required in the last over, skipper Angelo Mathews kept his nerve with his unbeaten 25 (21).

Pakistan’s skipper, Babar Azam, was also in the league, but his team, the Colombo Strikers, didn’t qualify for the playoff rounds. Babar finished the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer behind Hasaranga with 261 runs from eight games he played this season. Pakistan’s talisman had an average of 32.62 with the bat and smashed a century for the Strikers. But, the Stikers ended the five-team tournament in the fifth position. After Babar, Dinesh Chandimal was on the list of the highest run scorers. In the final, he scored 24 (22) and with his 259 runs in 10 games, was on the third spot in the run-scorers' list for the league.
