The woes for Delhi Capitals continued in the Indian Premier League 2023 as they lost their fifth consecutive game of the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The RCB hosted the 2020 finalists at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for the 20th match of the 16th edition of IPL.

After winning the toss, the team led by David Warner elected to bowl first on a very favourable batting pitch. RCB, on the other hand, had a sub-par showing with the bat. While Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis got off to a fast start in the first innings, the latter could not sustain it. He was dismissed after scoring 22 runs off 16 deliveries. The former team captain, on the other hand, went on to score a solid half-century, 50 runs in 34 balls.

While Mahipal Lomror (26 runs in 18 balls), Glenn Maxwell (24 runs in 14 balls), and Shahbaz Ahmed (20 runs in 12 balls) had brief appearances, it was not sufficient for the team. The spinners were on top of their game, limiting the host team to 174/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav was the bowler of choice for DC, with two wickets in the four overs that he bowled. Mitchell Marsh got two wickets as well, while Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav each took one. The chase looked easy for the Delhi side, but it was an anti-climatic end for them.

Prithvi Shaw continued his terrible run in the season and was run out for a duck in the first over of the game itself. Problems continued for them as Marsh also departed for a duck in the next over. They lost their third wicket, Yash Dhull, in the third over.

After that, Manish Pandey tried to stabilize the innings with Warner, but the latter could not continue his form from the previous match. He was dismissed for a team score of 30 in the last over of the powerplay.

Pandey (50 runs in 38 balls) hit his first half-century of the season, but it wasn't enough as wickets continued to fall at one end. In the end, the visitors managed to hold on to their last wicket as they were restricted to 151/9. RCB handed DC a defeat by 23 runs in the 20th match of IPL 2023.
