Australia's Ellyse Perry missed out on a century with 99 on the first day of the women's Ashes Test match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. A regrettable shot at a crucial juncture added her name to the list of heartbreak, making her the fourth female Test batter ever to be out on 99.

Without regular captain Meg Lanning, the management promoted Perry to No. 3. She drove the visitors to 328-7 at the end of the one-off Test of the multi-format series.  Her 153-ball innings, with 15 fours, ended abruptly as she sliced Filer's delivery towards gully fielder Sciver-Brunt.

After stumps on Day 1, Perry proclaimed her thorough enjoyment of her time at the crease, despite struggling to feel disappointed about being dismissed for 99."It’s a number, and one that we talk about a lot in cricket, but the whole experience out there today was so much fun," she said.

“I’ve loved every opportunity. Sometimes things just go that way. It’s hard to be disappointed. It’s just like any other time to get out. It’s a bit of a bummer, but gosh, the game definitely goes on, and life goes on for sure," the 32-year-old added.

Playing her 11th Test, Perry joined Snowball, Kennare, and Jonassen in the unwanted list, missing a chance at a century trio.

Perry's stunning knock keeps Australia in the hunt as England fightback on Day 1

Australia openers Mooney and Litchfield couldn't capitalize on their strong start, but Perry's 119-run partnership with McGrath stood out.

Australia dominated early, but England staged a brilliant comeback with Ecclestone's three wickets. Day 1 ended at 328-7, Sutherland (39*) and King (7*) unbeaten.
