Ravindra Jadeja and the Chennai franchise were involved in a bitter feud as the all-rounder was not happy with the way the “Yellow Army” had treated him when he was given the responsibility of leading the side in the 2022 edition. Sadly, he was removed from the post after just eight matches. His form with bat and ball was also not great, with just 112 runs.

Meanwhile, both parties settled the differences amicably and the issue was put to rest. Jadeja had recently uploaded a picture of him with MS Dhoni indicating that he was ready for a fresh start with Chennai. Now, Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed the potential reason behind selling Jadeja which was eventually shelved.

He said that if at all Jadeja had been let go by Chennai, they would have widened their auction purse by another sixteen crores but, it would have been difficult to get a like-for-like replacement for someone of the all-rounder’s calibre. Ashwin also talked about another dimension, where if Jadeja was traded to any other team then that team would have gotten very strong, and it would have been difficult for Chennai to get a replacement Indian player as well. He had talked about this on his YouTube Channel.

Chennai finished 9th on the points table in 2022

Chennai had to endure their second-worst edition in the Indian T20 League as they won only four games out of fourteen and lost ten of them. They had eight points against their name and finished second last on the points table in the Indian T20 League 2022 edition. Chennai will go into the auction with a budget of 20.45 crore INR.

On another note, Ashwin talked about a potential signing for Chennai. Manish Pandey has been shown the door by the Lucknow franchise and Ashwin feels that Pandey would end up with the Chennai side because they would need an Indian batter at the top of the order to replace Robin Uthappa, who retired from all forms of cricket.
