India registered one of the most memorable wins against Pakistan in their cricketing history on Sunday. After restricting their arch-rivals to 159 runs, India chased down the score on the final ball of the 20th over. The match will always be remembered for Virat Kohli’s stunning knock of 82 runs in 53 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes. He, once again, starred with the bat against Pakistan in a World Cup encounter and helped the team notch a four-wicket win.
The game was evenly poised till the final over as India needed 16 runs in the last 6 deliveries to win the match. Pakistan fans were delighted after M Nawaz accounted for the wicket of Hardik Pandya on the first ball of the over. Virat Kohli hit a six on the third ball which was also a no-ball. Nawaz then bowled a wide and conceded 3 runs on the fourth ball.
India needed 2 runs in the last two deliveries but there was still a twist left in the game. Dinesh Karthik was out-stumped on the penultimate delivery to let Ashwin face the final ball of the match.
Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t have much time to settle as he needed to score two runs in 1 ball to win the match. Ashwin, however, looked too composed and showed great presence of mind. Nawaz darted one down the leg side which ended in a wide. Ashwin then hit the ball over mid-off for a single to seal the win for India.
In a recent interaction with Hrishikesh Kanitkar, Ashwin jokingly said that had the bowl of Nawaz turned and hit his pad he would have called it quits from the game.
"If that ball of Nawaz turned and hit my pad then only one thing I do was back to the dressing room and picked my Twitter and write 'Thank you so much, It was wonderful my cricketing career and Journey and thank you all (laughs)'," Ashwin said during an interaction with Hrishikesh Kanitkar.
India are currently playing their second match against the Netherlands in Sydney.
