Following India’s crushing 10-wicket defeat over England in the semi-final, India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid was asked about the future of India’s senior players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar among others. The legendary cricketer said that India have many games coming up in the future to decide on that and, perhaps, this isn’t the right time to talk about the same.

“It’s too early to talk about it right now. It’s just after a semi-final game. These guys have been terrific performers for us. We have a couple of years to reflect on it, there are some really good quality players here. Absolutely not the right time to talk about this stuff or think about this stuff right now. We will have enough games, enough matches as we go on ahead. We will try build and prepare for the next World Cup,” head coach Rahul Dravid told reporters.

Apart from Virat Kohli, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, M Shami, etc have had a forgettable outing in the tournament. Virat Kohli finished as India’s highest run-scorer in the tournament. In 6 matches, he has 296 runs to his name at an average and a strike rate of 98.67 and 136.41 respectively.

However, skipper Rohit Sharma had a horrendous outing with the bat. In the semi-final match against England, he made 27 runs in 28 deliveries, and overall, scored only 116 runs in 6 matches at a strike rate of 106.

Ravichandran Ashwin played all six games in the competition and could only manage to pick 6 wickets at an average of 25.83 and an economy of close to 9. Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar too picked as many wickets at averages of 23.83 and 28.75 respectively. Dinesh Karthik couldn’t make the most of the opportunities that were handed to him.

Given the kind of performances they showcased, it could be the end of the road for them in the shortest format.
