Indian cricket Abhinav Mukund made a very insightful tweet about players choosing franchise cricket ahead of playing for the national side. The 33-year-old batter took to Twitter to raise a very serious issue that took place in the ongoing SA20.

Mukund wrote, “Question- The PoTM in yesterday #SA20 missed an international game less that 24 hours before due to an injury. What would happen if the roles were reversed with an Indian cricketer doing that for an IPL game? Would we be ok with that?”

Abhinav Mukund's tweet raises an interesting point about the prioritization of domestic T20 leagues over international cricket. The injury withdrawal of South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock from the 3rd ODI against England to participate in a South African T20 League (SA20) match for Durban Super Giants against MI Cape Town has sparked debates on social media.

Here's Abhinav Mukund's Tweet

The popularity of T20 leagues, such as the Indian T20 League and the Big Bash League (BBL), has grown significantly in recent years. These leagues offer lucrative contracts and opportunities for players to showcase their skills in a highly competitive environment. Most fans however argue that it's crucial for cricketers to remember that representing their country in international cricket is a huge honor and should always take precedence over domestic leagues.

In the case of Quinton de Kock, his injury withdrawal from an international ODI match and participation in a T20 league game has raised questions about player prioritization. Mukund has also asked an open-ended question that what would be the fans’ response if an Indian cricketer were to do the same. In India, cricket is treated as a religion, and the Indian cricket team is considered to be the embodiment of the nation's pride. Hence, the fans would expect their players to prioritize international cricket over domestic leagues.

South Africa lost the match in De Kock's absence

De Kock was the Player of the Match in the SA20 match between MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants. He made 63 off 41 with the help of 7 fours and 3 sixes. In the international match between South Africa and England however, de Kock’s team wasn’t as successful as they lost to England.
