PV Sindhu wins maiden Singapore Open title

Indian badminton star PV Sindhu added to her count of titles as she clinched the Singapore Open Super 500 trophy. She ended up getting the better of China's Wang Zhi Yi in a hard-fought women's singles final that took place on Sunday. The players felt pressure because of the title clash and due to this, many errors were committed. Sindhu managed to keep cool in the key moments to triumph in glory against the 22-year-old Wang, the reigning Asian Championships gold medalist. The final score line read 21-9 11-21 21-15 in favour of P.V Sindhu.

The superstar from Hyderabad came into the match having had a 1-0 lead over Wang, having beaten the Chinese player during their sole meeting at the All England Championships that took place this year.

Sindhu delivered another match-winning performance and showcased another fine display of badminton that made her clinch a third world tour title of the season.

The toss was a major factor in the match with drift in the court making life difficult for the shuttlers. Wang made full use of winning the toss which helped her choose the side and put her in an advantageous position as she played against the drift after the final change of ends.

However, Sindhu made fewer mistakes and kept her cool under pressure. This helped her to get yet another title and be triumphant by the end of the match.

After losing the first two points, Sindhu used her reach to get the shuttle early, played some superb angled returns, and produced one winner after another to stay ahead in the opening game.

Playing against the drift allowed the Indian to go for her shots even as Wang hit wide and long. Sindhu gathered 11 straight points on the trot to zoom into the mid-game interval at 11-2.

At 8-15, Sindhu failed to dispose of a weak return with her opponent on the floor. In the end, a jump smash helped Wang grab a massive 10-game point and she converted it in her second attempt to make a roaring comeback.

The match went on its feet at the deciding set because the duo played some big and long rallies that added to the excitement in the match.

Wang hit wide as Sindhu threw her arms up in the air as she erupted while celebrating.

This was her title number three title of the season adding to the two Super 300 crowns that she achieved in Syed Modi International and Swiss Open earlier in the year.
