The ongoing Pakistan Super League has seen quite a lot of action so far. While season eight has been running successfully, a strange incident gave it a bad name.  Apparently, CCTV cameras worth millions of rupees (PKR) installed at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium were reportedly stolen.

According to media reports, the batteries of generators installed for lighting at the venue have also gone missing. The fiber cables for CCTV cameras, as well as a few other things were also stolen. It is learned that the authorities have filed a complaint at the Gulberg police station. The venue hosted a clash between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday, February 26.

The bizarre incident took place amid a standoff over PSL security costs between the Punjab government and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The total cost of the security arrangements at the venues stands at around PKR 500 million. The government was asking the PCB to pay 50 percent of the cost and is only willing to pay PKR 450 million. On the other hand, the cricket board says that it is the responsibility of the provincial government to pay for the security costs.

Pakistan Super League won't be shifted out of Lahore

After a few days of a standoff between the board and the government, both parties have come to terms. The government has decided to take its demand of a share while bearing the security expenses

"I am grateful to the Chief Minister Mr Mohsin Naqvi for accepting and understanding the PCB and PSL franchisees' position," Sethi said. "I am also thankful to the franchise owners for their overwhelming and unconditional support to the PCB throughout this process. We remain committed to working with the local governments and sharing with them ideas and suggestions on how they can utilise the PSL more strategically to generate revenues, like any other major sport extravaganza," PCB chairperson Najam Sethi after the issues were solved.
