Football's premium league the Premier League 2022-23 kicked off with Arsenal locking horns with Crystal Palace. Arsenal won the first match with a 2-0 lead. Defending champions Manchester City won their first outing against West Ham with a 2-0 lead. Brighton reigned over Manchester United with a 2-1 lead. With enough surprises in the first week of the league, fans would hope for a few more surprises coming their way. Mike Dean, Jonathan Moss, and Martin Atkinson have retired and won't be refereeing matches this time around.

Here's all you need to know about the event:

1) Five subs a match:

Teams will be allowed to make five substitutions in a match this year. This will be allowed on three occasions in a match and an additional opportunity during half-time of the match. The teams will be allowed to name up to nine substitutions ahead of a match.

2) The Nike Flight Ball:

Premier League 2022-23 will see a Nike flight ball. Some reports reveal that it is inspired by the maiden Premier League held three decades ago. The makers have made use of the AerowSculpt technology for better consistency and flight enhancements.

3) Most amount spent in the transfer window:

The transfer window for the current premier league opened on June 10 and will go on until September 1. The Guardian has reported that Arsenal has spent the most with $112.7m. Nottingham Forest, the new arrival has also spent $77.9m.

4) Contenders:

Manchester City and Liverpool might end up fighting for the title this year. But we might be in for a few surprises at the end of the league. Liverpool finished just below Manchester City last year and both can be finalists this time.

5) The long pause between November 13 and December 26:

The premier league will make way for FIFA World Cup 2022 from November 13 to December 26. This is the first occasion where there will be no Premier League matches for six weeks straight. FIFA World Cup 2022 will be held in Qatar this year and the Premier League will have a brief pause during this time.
