Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has had an inconsistent run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, but with a stunning 112-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR), they boosted their net run rate (NRR), keeping them ahead of the other teams seeking for playoff berths. The Faf du Plessis-led side are currently fifth in the points table with 12 points and need to win their remaining two league matches to secure a spot in the knockout stage.

RCB will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday (May 18) in what will be a crucial encounter for the Bangalore-based franchise to keep them alive in the tournament. SRH are already out of the season after losing to Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday and will look to spoil others' party like Delhi Capitals did against Punjab Kings on Wednesday.

With eight points from 12 matches, SRH are currently at the bottom of the points table and a win against RCB will take them to the 9th spot. They have one more game against the Mumbai Indians (MI), who are also in a must-win situation to stay in the race. If the five-time champions lose to the 2016 winners, it will be difficult for them to enter the playoffs, while a massive win for SRH could see them climb the points table.

RCB's fate is in their own hands, as a win over SRH and against GT on May 21 will advance them to the next round. Compared to the NRR of other teams competing for qualification, RCB (0.166) is in a better position and if they lose against SRH, it will spoil their hopes badly and give easy access to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
