'Phenomenal Series win' - Twitter buzzing as Australia thrash South Africa by innings and 182 runs

South Africa were humbled by Australia as the Kangaroos defeated the Proteas by an innings and 182 runs in the second Test at Melbourne.

Australia gave a crushing defeat to South Africa by an innings and 182 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series. David Warner made headlines by cracking 200 off 255 balls in his 100th Test match.

Australia and South Africa locked horns against each other at the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the second Test. The Kangaroos won the toss and opted to bowl. The Proteas were on the back foot straight away as they were tottering at 58-4. Then Kyle Verreynne and Marco Jansen got 52 off 99 balls with three fours and 59 off 136 balls respectively with 10 fours.

Then it was the Cameron Green show that brought back Australia in the game by picking up 5-27. The Proteas were all out for just 189 runs on the board. Australia batted and sent the South African bowlers on a leather hunt David Warner smashed a double century with 16 fours and two sixes.

Steven Smith smashed 85 off 161 balls with nine fours and 1 six Travis Head hit a quickfire 51 off 55 balls with seven fours and one six. Green hit a resilient 51 off 177 balls with 5 fours. The finishing touches were provided by Alex Carey who cracked 111 off 149 balls with 13 fours.

With all these contributions the Kangaroos mounted a massive 575-8. Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada were the most successful bowlers for the Proteas as they picked up 3-92 in 25 overs and 2-144 in 28 overs respectively.

South Africa were set a target of 386 to win the match in the fourth innings. The batting for the Proteas which has been pear-shaped in the series so far, could not stand up to the might of the Australian bowling lineup.

Other than Temba Bavuma who showed some grit and made 65 off 144 balls with 6 fours and Kyle who made 33 off 40 balls with 5 fours. The batting was a no-show from South Africa who crumbled for just 204 and were defeated by Australia by an innings and 182 runs.

Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Steven Smith picked up a wicket each. Scott Boland picked up 2-49 in his 15 overs spell. Nathan Lyon picked up 3-58 in his 17 overs spell.
