The Brazilian star athlete has revealed his reason for leaving Manchester City after the 2022 season. After spending about five and a half years for Etihad, Gabriel Jesus left the club managed by Pep Guardiola and moved to Arsenal. Along with the 26-year-old, Oleksandr Zinchenko also moved to Arsenal. Jesus was an integral part of Manchester City under Guardiola that won four premier league titles. But in 2022, Jesus opted to leave Manchester City and play for Arsenal under Mikel Arteta.
Jesus was crucial in Manchester City’s success in the last few seasons. In 236 appearances for Sky Blue, Jesus scored 95 goals. In Arsenal's previous campaign, Jesus performed so well despite being in and out of the side due to injuries. In 33 matches for the North London club, Jesus scored 11 goals and helped in 8 assists. Speaking in a podcast, Jesus revealed the reason for him leaving Manchester City and joining Arsenal in the process.
Gabriel Jesus reveals the reason behind leaving Manchester City
“There was a Champions League game, PSG at home, in which (Guardiola) put Zinchenko as a false nine. Crazy thing. The day before, he did not even use (Zinchenko) in training, he had put me in as a striker. Zinchenko even joked with me: "That day I felt bad for you". Two hours before the game, there is a team talk, the team eats, rests for 30 minutes and goes to the game. He told us the team; I did not even eat. I went straight to the room, crying, I called my mother to talk: "I want to leave.” said Jesus in the podcast.
The Brazilian footballer continued. “I am going home because he put (Zinchenko) on and he didn't put me on. He put a left-back there. I went crazy. 'There was a lot of that with (Guardiola) and it is not easy. It is really hard. That was when I decided, I did not want to stay anymore, and I decided to leave.” said Jesus. The former city player revealed the change of roles as the main reason behind exiting the city.
