The second match of the day in the Indian T20 League saw Delhi take on Lucknow in their first ever home game for the latter. KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers opened the batting but the Lucknow captain's stay didn't last long enough. On the other hand, Mayers kept on smashing the ball out of the park.

How did the Mayer's mayhem stop?

Axar Patel turned one about a metre to dismiss the West Indian after Kuldeep had first caused Hooda to edge out with a flight. Next came the wicket of Mayers which was the crucial one as he was nearing his hundred at a huge strike rate.

The run rate dropped with the wicket and the pressure mounted. Stoinis then slipped one through to the keeper of Khaleel, setting off wild celebrations because Khaleel needed to atone for dropping a sitter that cost his side 50 runs.

Ayush Badoni's 7-ball 18, which helped Nicolas Pooran get going with a 21-ball 36, helped the team score 66 runs in the death overs following some stalemate between overs 11 and 15. The last-ball impact substitute Krishnappa Gowtham and Badoni clubbed Sakaria for 53 runs, which includes 22 in the last over, while Khaleel made up for it by taking two wickets for 30 runs in his allotted overs.

Mark Wood's quickness destroyed Warner and Shaw's smooth start, in which they focused on Unadkat with a 17 run over, by knocking over Shaw and Mitchell Marsh in quick succession to stage a recovery in the powerplay. In actuality, Wood mishandled his hat-trick ball, delivered a no-ball (called off a review), and Sarfaraz nicked the free-hit behind, preventing Wood from getting the hat-trick that wasn't his.

Delhi's scoring slowed down significantly after Wood picked up Shaw, Marsh, and Sarfaraz to generate figures of 2-0-3-3, getting only 11 runs in 3 overs following the powerplay. Rilee Rossouw plundered 17 runs off a subpar over from Ravi Bishnoi. However, to get DC back on track, they still needed to get 119 runs off the remaining ten overs at almost 12 runs per over.

In order to complete the innings and secure a five-fer, Mark Wood took two more victims in his final over. I thought that was unique. With numbers of 5/14, he completely discombobulated Delhi today. With a margin of 50 runs, LSG triumph easily. When QDK returns for the following game, they will undoubtedly face a selection dilemma, but that is a good predicament.
