The eighth game of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) once again has sparked the debate on whether still there lies a problem with the Decision Review System (DRS). Nevertheless, it was eventually in the end, Quetta Gladiators (QUE) maintained their unbeaten streak in the tournament as they beat Islamabad United (ISL) by three wickets. With this win, QUE have now won two in the two whereas ISL have recorded their first victory.

In the ongoing match, QUE skipper Rilee Rossouw won the toss and chose to field first. Despite a shaky start with the ball, they quickly recovered. Alex Hales, who made a brisk 21, was dismissed by Akeal Hosein. Colin Munro, the former New Zealand and Islamabad United player, struggled to 20 off 22 balls before being dismissed at 69 runs.

Following Munro's dismissal, the batting lineup, already under pressure, failed to make significant contributions apart from brief cameos from Agha Salman and Faheem Ashraf. Abrar Ahmed, a Test player for QUE, claimed three wickets, supported by Mohammad Wasim. Hosein took two wickets, while Mohammad Hasnain managed one. Considering this ISL ended their innings at 138/9.

Rilee Rossouw guided his team to a second victory

In response, the team led by Rilee Rossouw had a shaky start when Saud Shakeel was dismissed lbw by Naseem Shah in the third over. Khawaja Nafay, a standout player this season, fell victim to Rumaan Raees, a champion from the 2017 Champions Trophy. Jason Roy played a solid innings of 37 runs but was eventually dismissed by Hunain, Naseem's younger brother, who claimed his first PSL wicket. Skipper Shadab Khan added to the pressure by removing former Pakistan and Gladiators skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed, leaving the team at 54/4.

During this phase, skipper Rossouw and Sherfane Rutherford formed a crucial partnership of 62 runs. Despite this, the former champions experienced some anxiety, losing seven wickets for 127/7. Nevertheless, their skipper remained steady till the end, ensuring the team's undefeated status so far. Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir contributed with two boundaries to support his captain.
