MUL vs ISL PJL 2024

Multan Sultans have climbed to the top of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 points table with two straight wins. Sultans beat Islamabad United by five wickets in a final-over thriller at their home turf on Tuesday, February 20. United suffered their first defeat in the tournament and dropped to third in the standings.

After being asked to bat first, United got off to a poor start as they lost both openers inside the powerplay. Their innings got stability when Agha Salman and Jordan Cox teamed up in the middle. The duo put on a partnership of over 60 for the third wicket before Usama Mir broke the partnership in the 12th over.

Cox's dismissal reduced their scoring rate and they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Salman managed to stay at the crease till the 19th over but did not get proper support from the other side. Mohammad Ali's final over yielded three wickets and United were bundled out on the last ball of the innings with 144 runs on the board.

Mohammad Rizwan - Reza Hendricks' 71-run stand powers Sultan to thrilling win

Pakistan speedster Naseem Shah managed to give his team an early breakthrough with the dismissal of English batter Dawid Malan in the very first over. Despite a horrendous start, wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan and Reza Hendricks did not relinquish control of the game. However, the spinners came into play and captain Shadab Khan got rid of the dangerous partnership by dismissing Rizwan.

A couple of overs later, Imad Wasim dismissed Yasir Khan and found some hope out of nowhere in the United camp. Proteas opener Hendricks smashed a brilliant fifty and took Sultans near the finish line. His dismissal in the 18th over created a bit of drama and missing a trick by not sending Khushdil Shah ahead of Iftikhar Ahmed took the game to the final over. However, the veteran Pakistan cricketer hit the winning single off the fifth ball to take his team home.
