After the Asia Cup 2023 exit, Pakistan cricket was in shambles as they were expected to play the final of the tournament. Ahead of the tournament, India and Pakistan were expected to play in the final. While the Men in Blue, won the tournament, the Green Brigade failed to reach the summit. It is notably very similar to the one they had in the continental tournament. However, they have somehow forgotten about having a backup wicketkeeper alongside Mohammad Rizwan.
Pakistan squad: Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Abdullah Shafique, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Usama Mir.
We were forced to make one change: Inzamam-ul-Haq
During the Asia Cup 2023, Naseem Shah got injured during the Super Four game against India. Since then, he has been reported to be ruled out not just for the World Cup but furthermore. He has been replaced by Hasan Ali, who has been in and out of the team.
“We were forced to make one change because of an unfortunate injury to Naseem Shah. We had a few injury scares in the recent Asia Cup, but I am glad to share that all the players are fully fit and are eager to perform for their country in the all-important tournament. I have received encouraging reports from our medical panel about Haris Rauf. He has started to (shadow) bowl at the National Cricket Academy and will be available for selection," Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq was quoted as saying by the PCB website.
