Pakistan had a slippery start to the 20-20 World Cup 2022 when they lost a thriller at the Melbourne Cricket Ground by four wickets to India. In what has been a change of fortunes since that high-voltage clash, Pakistan are in the 20-20 World Cup final and India crashed out of the tournament due to a 10-wicket hammering they suffered against England in the semi-final.

Ahead of the final, Shadab Khan recounted that edge-of-the-seat thriller against India. Speaking to Naseer Hussian on Sky Sports this is what the ace Pakistan wrist spinner talked about the emotions from that game and also how despite them being on the wrong side of the result against India, they knew that they were the better side than their rivals.

“We just wanted to give our 100 percent. We knew if we give our 100 percent, the result will come on our side. And that game, we gave our 100 percent. We didn’t finish it but we knew that we are a better side than them,” said Shadab. He has been shortlisted for the player of the tournament award as well.

India- Pakistan games are always big - Shadab Khan

Shadab then went on to elaborate on the India- Pakistan rivalry. The face-off has been one of a kind and this is what he had to say, “Pakistan-India game is a big game. For us. For them as well. So we have to try to win that game. Since childhood we also think, doesn’t matter about the other things, if we are winning the World Cup or not….we have to beat India. And the same pressure we are feeling now. That’s the pressure you carry. Doesn’t matter if you are playing or not.”

Pakistan made a memorable comeback after losing two back-to-back games against India and Zimbabwe to make it to the finals of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. The Men in Green will be hoping for history to repeat itself so that Pakistan will lift their second World Cup title in Australia since they won their first down under way back in 1992.
