Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has revealed what he would’ve done if he ever becomes Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman. His comments came after the PCB management went through major changes last month as Ramiz Raja was removed from the Chairman post and was replaced by Najam Sethi.

First and foremost, Akhtar made it clear that only players who perform well will be selected in the national team. The Rawalpindi Express also announced that he would run the board like a corporation, which would ensure it makes a lot of money.

“If I become the PCB chairman, only the players who show impressive performance will come forward,” the 47-year-old was quoted as saying by A Sports.

“PCB needs to be run like a corporation and we can make a lot of money by doing that,” he added.

The sudden changes in the PCB management were made after Pakistan lost four consecutive Tests at home in 2022. It was for the first time in their history that they lost four consecutive Tests and were whitewashed in a Test series at home. Under the leadership of captain Babar Azam, Pakistan first lost the third and the last Test against Australia in March to lose the series 0-1.

They were further whitewashed 3-0 in the subsequent Test series against England. As a result, Ramiz Raja was sacked from his position and was replaced by Najam Sethi. Former Pakistan Captain Shahid Afridi was given the responsibility of heading the new selection committee of PCB.

Pakistan players will play PSL starting from February 19

Afridi has already made some notable changes to the team. First of which was re-calling the veteran wicketkeeper batter Sarfaraz Khan into the Test team who had been scoring heavily in domestic cricket. Sarfaraz repaid the faith of Afridi with his bat as he finished as the highest run-scorer in the recent two-match Test series against New Zealand which was drawn 0-0.

However, Pakistan went on to lose the following three-match ODI series by 2-1. Many of the Pakistan players will now take part in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which will take place from February 13 to March 19 in Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi. International cricket will resume in the country in April with an ODI and T20I series against New Zealand.
