Pakistan cricket team have been in a bit of a slump over the last two months or so, ever since the 20-20 World Cup last year. They were whitewashed 3-0 by England in the home Test series and narrowly escaped a Test series defeat to New Zealand at home. They lost the ODI series 2-1 to Kiwis.

The string of losses also forced several changes in the personnel of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). With the 50-over World Cup around the corner, Pakistan will have to turn things around if they must go to the global event with a chance. However, a former Pakistan fast bowler Aaqib Javed, firmly believes that the Men in Green would go into the tournament as one of the better teams in the competition. He claimed that they have always given India a “tough time”.

"Pakistan has always given India a tough time,” said Javed, who was quoted as saying by Geo TV. “When the Pakistan team goes to India for the World Cup, it will not face any problems in playing on the pitches there.”

Pakistan has an advantage due to bowling: Aaqib Javed

“Although recently India scored a lot of runs against New Zealand in the ODI series. But the bowling of Pakistan is not the bowling of New Zealand, so the Indian batsmen scored four hundred runs," Javed added.

"Pakistan cricket team is better in ODI cricket as it has an advantage due to bowling. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah are fully fit, so it will benefit the team. Pakistan has Shadab Khan along with Mohammad Nawaz in India, so there will be no need for fast bowling all-rounder. If Pakistan scores 300 runs, then it will be very difficult for the other team to chase it down," he added.

Although Pakistan lost the ODI series against New Zealand, the Asian side had a successful 2022 in the 50-over format, winning eight out of nine matches in the year.
