A corruption case has come to light in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 involving Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fast bowler Mohammad Siraj. According to the reports, a driver contacted Siraj via phone and asked him to give inside information about team India. Although, Siraj gave this information to the Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Indian Cricket Board.

The official board of Cricket in India has made a strict code of conduct regarding corruption. If any player or official does not inform the officials about being approached by a bookie, then the board can take strict action against the player. According to some reports, after losing a lot of money during betting in the last match, an unknown person (who is the driver) wanted information from Siraj about the Indian team.

He had approached Siraj via WhatsApp: An Indian Cricket Board source

He messaged Siraj on his Whatsapp but after this, the speedster immediately gave this information to the officials. Although it was not a bookie and actually was a driver from Hyderabad who used to spend money during IPL matches. He has lost a lot of money in betting. That's why he contacted Siraj to get inside information about the team.

"It wasn't a bookie who approached Siraj. He is a driver from Hyderabad who is addicted to betting on Indian matches. He had approached Siraj via WhatsApp after losing a lot of money on India games, Siraj reported the approach immediately. The law enforcement (Andhra Police) authorities had nabbed the person." a senior Indian Cricket Board source privy to the developments was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

This is not the first time that the shadow of fixing has loomed large during the IPL. Even before this, spot-fixing has happened in the cash-rich league. When S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, and Ajit Chandila were arrested. Apart from this, Gurnath Meiyappan of Chennai Super Kings was also accused of spot-fixing. Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India made strict rules to deal with such things.
