The high-octane clash between India and Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup is set to take place on October 15 at the world's largest venue - Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The Cricket Governing Body's marquee event will begin on October 5 when New Zealand and defending champions England square off at the same venue. The 10-team battle for the coveted title will conclude on November 19 and will also be played at Motera.
Earlier, there were reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has threatened to boycott the World Cup tournament following India's refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023. Indian Cricket Board secretary Jai Shah had said that Team India would play their Asia Cup matches at a neutral venue, keeping security concerns in mind.
In response to India's decision, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi issued a statement that Pakistan cricket team will not travel to India for the 50-over World Cup. However, according to a report by Cricbuzz, Pakistan have allowed their men to tour India for the much-awaited tournament.
A formal schedule will be issued after the end of IPL 2023
A total of 48 matches will be played and Rohit Sharma's men will kick off their campaign against Australia in Chennai. The semi-final will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It is known that the World Cup 2023 matches will be held in several locations across the country like Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi, Indore, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Rajkot, Raipur and Mumbai.
However, Pakistan will reportedly play all its matches in four cities namely Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru. Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board is expected to announce a formal schedule after the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023, once they have received consent from all stakeholders.
India, Pakistan, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are the eight teams who have already qualified. The final two spots will be filled after qualifying matches between several teams including West Indies, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Nepal and Oman.
