The four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made it into their 10th IPL final after defeating the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) by 15 runs in Qualifier 1 at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium. Batting first, CSK posted a total of 172 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, powered by the half-century of Ruturaj Gaikwad. In reply, GT was bowled out for 157 runs in their 20 overs.

CSK had a flying start as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon put up an opening partnership of 87 runs in 10.3 overs. Gaikwad got out after scoring 60 runs off 44 balls hitting seven fours and a maximum. While in the very next over, Shivam Dube lost his wicket to Noor Ahmad after scoring just 1 run.

After that, Conway and Ajinkya Rahane tried to take the innings further with a small partnership of 31 runs for the third wicket. Rahane got out on the last ball of the 15th over after scoring 17 off 10 balls with a six, while Conway also lost his wicket in the next over after scoring 40 runs off 34 balls hitting four boundaries. After his dismissal, Ambati Rayadu got out after playing a quickfire knock of 17 runs off 9 balls with a four and a six.

On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed on the final ball of the innings by Mohammed Shami after scoring 22 runs off 16 balls with two boundaries, as CSK went past 170 runs. For GT, Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma scalped 2-2 wickets, while Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad and Darshan Nalkande shared a wicket each.

GT lost wickets at regular intervals

Chasing the winning total, GT didn’t have a great as they went on to lose wickets at regular intervals. Shubman Gill was the only batter who tired the innings further in the middle with wickets falling from the other end. The 23-year-old got out after scoring 42 runs off 38 balls hitting four fours and a maximum.

The score was reduced to 98 for 6 in 14.3 overs. After that, Rashid Khan tried to take his team down the line by scoring 30 runs off 16 with three fours and two sixes. However, he got out in the 19th over which took the game away from GT and they bowled out in the last ball of the match. For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana took 2-2 wickets each, while Tushar Deshpande put 1 in his bag.

CSK are now directly qualified for the final of IPL 2023, which is scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 28th. Meanwhile, GT will get another chance they face the winner of Eliminator 1 between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad on May 26th.
