After India’s shock exit from the semi-final of the 20-20 World Cup, the Indian Cricket Board took a knee-jerk reaction and that led to the selection committee, led by Chetan Sharma, being sacked. New applications are being sought for the post of Indian selector and the deadline for closure of the same is November 28.

While Chetan and other selectors namely, Sunil Joshi, Debashish Mohanty and Harvinder Singh are eligible to apply once again for the selector's role, the board has decided to start afresh and make a total revamp of the selection committee. They want people on the selection committee who understood T20 cricket better.

When the 20-20 World Cup 2022 was going on, the Chetan Sharma-led panel picked squads for both the upcoming series against New Zealand and Bangladesh. This was a rare occurrence in itself in Indian Cricket. “The selectors knew it was coming,” a board official said.

The Indian Cricket Board is not happy with Rahul Dravid as well

A lot of decisions, which were taken by the selectors were done according to the directives of Rahul Dravid, which included periodic rest for the players and also a rotation policy in place. Some of the calls were looked at as very questionable.

The Indian Cricket Board is also unhappy with Rahul Dravid and this has to be because of several decisions that he took such as not trusting Mohammed Shami in T20s, rushing Jasprit Bumrah too early from injury, not giving Rishabh Pant enough opportunities, and not using Yuzvendra Chahal in Australia.

A lot of the regulations remain in place and that to be a selector it is compulsory to be below 60 years of age. The person should have played either 7 test matches or 30 first-class matches or 10 ODIs or 20 first-class matches. One of the duties of a selector is also to choose a skipper for each format.

Chetan did not have a stint to be remembered when he took the reins as Chief selector. It was stormy weather when the captaincy changed hands from Virat Kohli to Rohit Sharma. This led to Kohli giving up captaincy in all three formats. When Kohli exited the job, there were different reasons given by Sourav Ganguly and Chetan which made things worse.
