With Pakistan losing to Zimbabwe in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 on October 27, Thursday, they are now dependent on India to clinch a win against South Africa on Sunday in Perth. Ahead of the heavyweight clash between the two teams, Pakistan fans started coming up with memes backing the Men in Blue to defeat the Proteas.
India, on the other hand, are in a strong position to make it through to the next round. Even if the team led by Rohit Sharma lose to South Africa on Sunday, the team have all the possibilities to make it through if they defeat Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in the upcoming days of the tournament.
Can Pakistan make it through to the semis?
However, India’s win against the Proteas won’t decide the future for the Men in Green as they have to win all of the remaining matches as well. Babar Azam, the skipper of the Pakistan team, said after the loss against Zimbabwe that he was disappointed with his team’s sepulchral performance.
“We would have taken 130 at the halfway stage. Very disappointing performance, we are not up to the mark in batting. We have good batters but both openers got out in the powerplay. When Shadab and Shan were building partnership, unfortunately Shadab got out and then back-to-back wickets that pushed us into pressure situation,” Babar said after the match against Zimbabwe in a post-match interview.
“First 6 overs, we haven't used the new ball well but we finished well with the ball. We will sit out, discuss our mistakes and we will train hard and come back strong in our next game,” said the Pakistan skipper further.
As it stands, the Indian squad will do all it takes to clinch a crushing win against South Africa as it would take the team closer to the knockouts. The Proteas, on the other hand, will leave no stone unturned to restrict India from continuing on with their emphatic form.
Pakistan team management and their fans would keep their fingers crossed and would hope for India’s win. The Men in Green, however, are known for making a comeback and if at all they make it to the next stage, rest assured, they could lift the trophy as well. Let us take a look at a few interesting memes that fans came up with ahead of the India-South Africa clash:
