The Australian team is majorly concerned about Nathan Lyon’s calf injury. The star off-spinner suffered a major injury on day two of Lord’s test in an attempt to stop the ball hit by English batter Ben Duckett. The right-arm-off spinner injured his calf and walked out of the field slowly. The 35-year-old looked in serious pain as he sat down for some time and asked for medical assistance.

As the medical staff from Australia arrived and assessed the condition of the bowler, the Australian team members looked worried. Lyon looked dejected and was in tears as the medical staff asked him to return from the ground. The Australian spinner was assisted by the staff member to return to the dressing room and ensured that the bowler was taken back safely from the field. It remains to be seen if Lyon could bowl in the remainder of the match.

A Cricket Australia spokesman said, “Nathan Lyon suffered an injury to his right calf while fielding in the final session today. He will be further assessed after play. A further update, if available, will be shared in the morning”. Speaking about the unfortunate injury in the post-match conference, the Australian star batter Steve Smith said “Nathan Lyon's injury is not looking good. Hopefully I won't have to bowl too much”.

Earlier in the match, Nathan Lyon joined the elite list of players to have played 100 consecutive test matches. Lyon became only the third Australian to achieve the feat along with Mark Waugh and Allan Border. The Australian spinner currently has 496 wickets in Test cricket, the eighth most for a bowler in the longest format of the game.

Steve Smith managed to maintain a smile during the press conference. But the star batter and the other teammates would be aware of the potential loss if Lyon couldn’t bowl further in the test. Australia currently leads the series 1-0 and a win at Lord’s can consolidate their position towards a series victory.
