Wazhma Ayoubi celebrates Afghanistan's win

Afghanistan won a historic match of the ODI World Cup 2023, against defending World Champions England on October 15, at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, New Delhi. After 2015 this is their first victory in the marquee tournament. They have ended their 14-match losing streak in the World Cup. England was stunned at the capital city as Afghan spinners webbed around their batters. The fans of Delhi were also overwhelmed by Afghanistan's victory.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan picked up three wickets each as the defending champions were bowled out for 215 in 40.3 overs. Social media influencer Wazhma Ayoubi cheered her home side to a famous win. She posted on Twitter while congratulating her team and offered her thanks to all the fans who were cheering for them at the Arun Jaitely Stadium on Sunday. This would be celebrated for a long time in their country.

Batting first the Afghan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz fired at the start of the innings. They scored 100 runs in 12.4 overs. But as their middle order crumbled they could only post a total of 284. In reply England's batters struggled to score runs against the Afghan bowlers and kept on losing wickets.

Finally, we achieve our first World Cup win after a long wait: Wazhma Ayoubi

Wazhma Ayoubi said, "Afghanistan defeats the current world champions by 69 runs. Congratulations to all of Afghanistan. Finally, we achieve our first World Cup win after a long wait. Well done #AfghanAtalan @ACBofficials. And a big thank you to all our Indian brothers and sisters cheering for Afghanistan today, Dhanyavaad."

Mujeeb ur Rahman after the win stated, "It is a very proud moment to be here in the World Cup and beating the champions. It’s a great achievement for the whole team, we worked hard for this day. We beat such a big team. It was a wonderful performance from the bowlers and the batters. As a spinner, it’s pretty hard to bowl in the powerplay, you have only two fielders outside. That’s something I’ve been working in the nets."
