Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram, who is one of the greatest fast bowlers to play the game of Cricket, gave a cheeky suggestion to the Pakistan team on how they can qualify for the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023.

After New Zealand’s win against Sri Lanka in their last league match, Pakistan’s qualification chances have become unrealistic.

After New Zealand’s thumping victory against Sri Lanka, if Pakistan has to make it to the semis, they will have to beat England by 287 runs if they bat first or chase down whatever target they get with 3 overs to spare. Wasim Akram, on his sports show at A Sports, took a sly dig at the Pakistan team on their qualification chances by sharing a funny scenario of how Pakistan can still make it through.

He said that if Pakistan wants to surpass New Zealand’s run rate and make it through to the semis they should bat first, post the necessary runs, and then lock the New Zealand team in the dressing room to get them all timed out. It was all said jokingly by Wasim Akram in light of the recent ‘Timed-Out’ controversy that took place between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan are almost out of the World Cup

New Zealand won by 5 wickets against Sri Lanka with more than 26 overs to spare which has made it next to impossible for Pakistan to qualify for the semi-finals even if they manage to win against England in their last league match.

New Zealand under a bit overcast conditions in the afternoon bundled the Sri Lanka team for a meagre total of 171 runs. New Zealand bowlers were on point on Thursday as they kept getting wickets at regular intervals. It was all for the quick-fire half-century of Kusal Perera in just 22 balls and Sri Lanka’s tail-enders who managed to show some resolve to get New Zealand to 171 runs which the Kiwis chased down in quick time making it nearly impossible even to qualify.

New Zealand is most likely to face India in the semi-finals at Wankhede Stadium on 15th November. Pakistan’s unofficial ouster and Wasim Akram’s hilarious response to the whole qualification scenario brought some hilarious responses from fans on “X” formerly known as Twitter.
