Amid the speculations about his place in India's World Cup-paddling XI star batter Shreyas Iyer made a blistering comeback in form. While facing Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Iyer played a beautiful knock of 82 runs. His innings helped India cross the 350-run mark in the game. However, after the game, Iyer faced some critical questions in a press conference.

He was asked about the short-ball issues that have affected his game in the last few years. While a reporter asked him about his short-ball problem, Iyer aggressively asked him to clarify his question. "Short ball has been a problem for you since the beginning of the World Cup, but today we saw many good shots. How will you prepare for the match against South Africa? We all know how adept they are with the short ball", the reporter asked.

In response to the question, Iyer tossed up one in front of the journalist. He said, "When you are talking about a problem for me, what does it mean?" In response, the journo clarified his question and put it more politely. He said, "It is not a problem; it means it bothers you." In response, Iyer said, "Does it bother me? Have you seen how many pull shots I have played, many of which have gone to the boundary? If you hit the ball, you can be out either way."

"Be it a short ball or an overpitched ball, if I am bowled two or three times, then you all will say that he cannot play the inswing ball; if the ball swings, then he cannot even play the cut shot. As players, we can get out on any ball. All this environment has been created outside by you people, and that is why it keeps going on in your mind, and you keep working on all these things."

"I know very well how to deal with it", says Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer didn't stop here and tried to rubbish all of the comments around his short ball problem. He continued his argument and said that Wankhede has been his home ground, and he knows how to deal with bounced balls. "I come from Mumbai, and I have played a lot on the pitch of Wankhede, where more bounce is seen compared to the pitches of other grounds in India", says Iyer.

"I have played most of the matches here, and that is why I know very well how to deal with the bounced balls. When you go to hit bounced balls, you may get out; sometimes it also goes in your favour. It may be that when I have gone to hit such balls, I have been out most of the time, due to which you all think that this is a problem for me", he further added.

It's worth noting that India will now face another formidable force in the tournament, South Africa, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 5. The day will be celebrated at Eden Gardens, as legendary India batter Virat Kohli will be celebrating his 35th birthday on the same day.
