Star India batter Shubman Gill is currently out of action due to illness. He missed the first two games of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 due to dengue. However, in the latest news report, it has been revealed that Gill has started preparing for the upcoming games in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, news to celebrate has come for Gill. He has been awarded the Player of the Month award by the Apex Cricket Council. In the ongoing years, Gill has been phenomenal with the bat across formats and has been India's best batter. In September, Gill scored three half-centuries against Nepal, Pakistan, and Australia. He also mocked two centuries against Bangladesh and Australia.
In total, he scored 480 runs in the calendar month at an average of 80 and a strike rate of 99.37. Speaking about the award, Gill said, “I am delighted to have won the Player of the Month award for the month of September. It’s a great privilege to represent India at the international level and contribute to the team’s cause. This award will further motivate me to continue to seek excellence and make the country proud."

Further speaking about his achievement, Gill thanked his friends and family. "I managed to make a handy contribution towards the team, which had the fortune of winning the Asia Cup 2023 and then followed it up with an ODI series win against Australia in September. I take this opportunity to thank all my teammates, family, and coaches, without whom this achievement would not have been possible."
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka women's skipper Chamari Athapaththu also won the prestigious award. In September, Chamari Athapaththu's exceptional form on the world stage reached new peaks, securing her first Player of the Month award. Leading from the front, the Sri Lankan skipper steered her team to a historic series triumph against England in T20Is, marking their first-ever series victory in any format on English soil. Despite an initial loss, Athapaththu's stellar leadership propelled her side to a commendable 2-1 win.
