South Africa (SA) will lock horns with Afghanistan (AFG) in the 42nd match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Although, South Africa is second in the points table and has already qualified for the semi-finals but after the thrashing defeat against India by 243 runs they would want to regain their confidence back before the semi-final against Australia.
On the other hand, Afghanistan has all to play for in this match as anything less than a win will ensure their elimination from the World Cup. After a heart-shattering loss against Australia, Afghanistan's chances of making it into the semi-finals look slim and they will have to depend on the outcomes of Pakistan and New Zealand’s match but all of that will matter only if they win against South Africa. So, it’s going to be a do-or-die encounter for Afghanistan.
AFG vs SA: Match Details:
Date: November 10, 2023
Time: 02:00 PM IST
Venue: Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
Pitch and Playing Conditions:
The wicket at the Narendra Modi Stadium is known to be a balanced one with assistance to both batters and bowlers. The behaviour of the pitch will depend on the kind of pitch the match will be played on as there are multiple wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium with different types of soil.
However, in IPL we have seen high-scoring matches on this ground with good bounce, so the fast bowlers of South Africa will have something to play for on this ground. On the other hand, we have seen Australia’s Adam Zampa getting 4 wickets on this ground against England under lights which shows that this wicket also assists spinners and the big dimensions will help.
The average score on this ground has been 243 on this pitch with the fast bowlers taking 204 wickets in comparison to 109 wickets of the spinners. The weather is expected to be warm with temperatures ranging from 35 degrees Celsius to 22 degrees between the day and night. Rain is not going to play spoilsport in this game as per the weather reports.
Players to watch Out For:
Heinrich Klassen and Aiden Makram will hold the key for South Africa as both these batsmen play spin quite well and have ample experience playing in the IPL, whereas Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada’s pace will not be easy to handle for Afghanistan batters on this track.
If Afghanistan has to win this match, then Rashid Khan will have to perform in the match both the ball and bat. It’s his home ground in the IPL and he has ample experience of playing in the venue. Rahmanullah Gurbaz will be the batter to look out for in the Afghanistan setup as he can change the course of the match on his own.
