Ravindra Jadeja's fielding credentials need no introduction, and he once again proved his mettle in the ODI World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh. He took a blinder at the point to dismiss Musfiqur Rahim by diving to his weaker side. Jadeja’s valiant take at point enabled him to pip KL Rahul to win the best fielder award at the post-match award ceremony held every match by the Indian team’s fielding coach T. Dilip.
Team India’s fielding was under scrutiny for the past year or so, especially in the Asia Cup, where the Indian team was seen dropping catches at regular intervals. But in this World Cup, there has been a stark improvement in India’s fielding, and their catch percentage has been the best in the tournament so far.
As they say, catches win matches and tournaments, too, so India is putting much emphasis on their fielding, and a testimony of it has been the post-match award ceremony being held by the team’s fielding coach T. Dilip to recognize the fielding efforts of the players on the ground and in the last game Jadeja showed his prowess in the field.

KL Rahul and Kuldeep also shined in the field
Team India’s fielding in the tournament has been a sight to behold and in the last game, KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav were the stars in the field apart from Jadeja. Though KL Rahul is termed as a makeshift wicketkeeper his wicketkeeping in this tournament so far has been the best. He took a sensational catch by leaping towards his left which is the weaker side to get rid of Mehdi Hasan Miraj off the bowling of Siraj.
The irony is that KL Rahul was the same man who dropped the catch of Mehdi Hasan Miraj in a close encounter last year in Mirpur where Bangladesh managed to pull off a sensational victory thanks to Miraj’s innings. Yesterday, Rahul redeemed himself by pulling off a spectacular catch to dismiss Mehdy.
Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, also looked sharp on the field in the game against Bangladesh. Kuldeep’s ground fielding in the match against Pakistan was below par as he leaked a few runs in the field in that game but against Bangladesh there was a stark difference in his field and he managed to look sharp in the field which earned him praises from the fielding coach and his team members.
India is set to face the table-toppers New Zealand in the next game at Dharamsala and it’s expected to be a mouth-watering contest for cricket fans. Although India’s record against New Zealand in ICC tournaments has been poor India will come out to change the numbers in their favour as the tournament is being played on their home turf.
