India suffered a heartbreaking loss against Australia in the finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the gigantic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, whose ripple effect can be seen in the corridors of Indian Cricket.
Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the Head Coach of India Cricket team ended on 19th November after the finals of the ODI World Cup and it is looking almost certain that his contract will not be renewed for the upcoming T20I World Cup which will be held in the US and the West Indies.
Rahul Dravid’s tenure as a Head Coach was expected to guide the team from a shrewd mind during the game. Under his coaching tenure, Team India has lost 3 Apex Cricket Council tournaments including the ODI World Cup final 2023, T20 World Cup, and World Test Championship finals.
Rahul Dravid took over from Ravi Shastri after the India team failed disastrously after losing their initial two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand. But Dravid’s stint as the head coach of India has also been mediocre, to say the least as apart from the Asia Cup, India hasn’t won anything in the multi-nation tournament.
However, after the one-sided loss in the finals against Australia in Ahmedabad, Dravid came to address the media. During the press press conference when asked about the plans of his coaching tenure, he replied that he wasn’t focusing on that till now as his sole focus was on winning the World Cup and on the finals only and he hasn’t given it a thought.
He said, “Honestly, I haven't thought about it. I think all our campaigns, all our energies were focused on this match, focused on this tournament, and focused till here. And I haven't given it any thought or have any plans. I have had no plans of what's going to happen in the future,".
VVS Laxman will be the interim coach in the Australia series
Indian former batter VVS Laxman and current NCA director will be the interim coach for the upcoming Australia T20I series starting from 23rd November. Although BCCI will invite applications for the next Coach of the India Cricket team VVS Laxman is the front-runner to take up that role once Rahul Dravid officially exits.
