The ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 was marked by intense cricketing action, some unforgettable performances and nail-biting encounters. However, for the high-flying Indian team, the final turned into a heartbreak as they faced their only loss in the tournament after a remarkable winning streak of 10 matches.
From the group stage to the knockout rounds, the Indian team showcased exceptional skills and determination, winning hearts and matches alike. The pressure of the final match, though, proved to be a different challenge altogether.
In what can only be described as an anti-climax, the Indian team, amidst a grand occasion filled with celebrities and a spectacular air show, faltered, managing a total of 240, only to see Australia chase it down with ease, securing their sixth World Cup title.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the event in Ahmedabad. His presence added significance to the occasion, and despite the match almost being decided, he stayed till the end, witnessing the Australian team clinching their sixth title.
PM Modi's Pep Talk
In a touching moment after the match PM Modi not only presented the trophy to Australian skipper Pat Cummins but also took the time to console the Indian players. His pep talk, urging them to lift their spirits, showcased a humane side to the leader as he empathized with the team's disappointment.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the stalwarts of Indian cricket, were visibly distraught by the loss. However, PM Modi's words seemed to have a positive impact, encouraging the players to reflect on their remarkable journey to the final.
PM Modi went a step further, inviting the entire team to Delhi for a detailed discussion. This gesture aimed to not only appreciate their efforts but also help the players to regroup and look ahead to future challenges.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli looked hurt by the loss but PM Modi asked the boys to hold their heads high by saying, "Aap log pura 10-10 game jeet ke aaye ho, ye to hota rehta hai (You have come to the final after winning 10 games, these things happen)."
