India’s captain and Opening batsman Rohit Sharma has crossed the 18,000 runs mark in International Cricket playing for India at the Ekana Stadium today while playing against England in their sixth World Cup fixture. Before today’s game, Rohit Sharma was 47 runs short of 18,000 runs and he completed this feat in some style by sweeping Adil Rashid for a four.

Rohit Sharma has now become the fifth Indian to complete 18,000 runs after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, and Sourav Ganguly. Rohit Sharma has been in submile form in this World Cup which will most probably be his last 50 over World Cup and today again he got India out of jail by scoring a gritty 87 off just 101 balls after India lost three early wickets for just 40 runs.

Sachin Tendulkar has topped the chart for most International runs for India and otherwise with 34,357 runs followed by Virat Kohli with 26,121 runs. The present head coach of the Indian men's cricket team, Rahul Dravid, holds the third position on the list, having scored 24,064 runs during his tenure from 1996 to 2012. Former India captain and current BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly, secures the fourth spot with 18,433 runs for the Indian team, accumulated between 1992 and 2008."

Rohit’s International career has been full of ups and downs

Rohit Sharma made his International debut in 2007 and played an important role in winning the T20 World Cup under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He was classified as a find for India by many former Cricket players. But in the initial first six years of his career, Rohit Sharma mostly found himself in and out of the team because of his inconsistent performances and also missed a place in the 2011 World Cup winning squad.

Rohit Sharma truly found his mojo in International only in 2013 when he was asked to open by MS Dhoni in the 2013 Champions Trophy from where he never looked back. Rohit’s test career also took off in 2019 when he asked to open in Test Cricket and now Rohit is leading India in a home ODI World Cup.
