Indian cricket players are likely to get a short break after their World Cup match against New Zealand on Sunday to spend time with their families. The World Cup is a long and tiring tournament, and the seven-day gap between matches against New Zealand (October 22) and England (October 29) will give the players a chance to rest. Most of the players have been traveling and playing continuously since the Asia Cup, which was co-hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan from August 30 to September 17.

An Indian Cricket Board official told the media, “The players are likely to have an option of dispersing to their respective homes for a two or three-day break after the New Zealand game.” Since there is a long week gap between the two matches, it is reasonable for the players to spend some time with their families.

After a short and well-deserved break, the Indian cricket team is expected to reunite in Lucknow by October 26. On Sunday, October 29, the home team will play England at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

India and New Zealand on a roll in this World Cup so far

India has been the team to beat in this tournament so far in the four matches they have played along with New Zealand. New Zealand and India are sitting at No.1 and 2 respectively in the points table after 4 matches each. Both the team are set to face each other on Sunday in the picturesque Dharamsala currently surrounded by snow-clad mountains.

India has had a poor show against New Zealand in  tournaments and have not won a single against them since the 2003 World Cup. Although in bilateral matches, India has mostly dominated New Zealand but in World Cups, its New Zealand who have had the wood over India.

India would be determined to put up a good show against New Zealand and break the Kiwi hodoo but the Hardik Pandya injury would have pushed them on to the back foot before the important encounter as Pandya was a vital cog in the Indian line-up. But India has a strong bench strength which would be put to a test against New Zealand at their home turf.
