This ODI World Cup 2023 was considered to be one of the most one-sided World Cups along with the 2007 World Cup but in the last two days we have witnessed two close matches between the top sides of the tournament and it has kept people on the edge of their seats for the last two days.
Yesterday South Africa in a controversial match defeated Pakistan by 1 wicket and today Australia got the better of New Zealand by just 5 runs at Dharamshala in a day game. In a high-scoring game where close to 800 runs were scored, New Zealand fell short of chasing a mammoth target of 388 by just runs.
In a high-scoring thriller, the pendulum of the game was swinging up and down with each passing moment and at the end, Australia emerged at the top despite the valiant efforts of Rachin Ravindra and Jimmy Neesham. Rachin Ravindra has to be the find of the tournament who has already impressed many pundits with his performance in the tournament again scoring a scintillating hundred against a top team.
Along with him Jimmy Neesham also fought till the end with a quick-fire half-century but they succumbed to some outstanding ground fielding by the Australians. Mitchell Starc had to defend 19 runs in the penultimate over and the start was not all good as he conceded five wides at the start but eventually came back to his own and saved the day for Australia.
Australia pushed New Zealand onto the back with a Mammoth Total
After losing the toss Australia were sent in to bat first by New Zealand and David Warner and Travis Head spearheading the attack onto the Kiwi bowlers with their opening partnership of 175 runs that set the tone for Australian innings. Notably, Travis Head, in his inaugural World Cup appearance, exhibited his excellence with a century, eventually departing after accumulating 109 runs. Coupled with Warner's explosive display, this allowed Australia to amass a colossal 388 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in a mere 49.2 overs."
The fans were left on the edge by the high-scoring last bowl finish and were quick to express their emotions on “X” formerly known as Twitter. Here are some of the hilarious responses by fans on the thrilling encounter:
